The Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US Department of State, Matthew Palmer stated tonight that April 25th’s elections must be free and democratic. This Tuesday, Palmer held a virtual meeting with president Ilir Meta, PM Edi Rama and the leader of DP, Lulzim Basha.
After his communications with Albania’s political leaders, Palmer held another communication with Albanian journalists. Asked by Euronews Albania regarding what the US expects from Albania in terms of the elections, Palmar asserted that the US is expecting April 25th’s elections to respect the standards of OSCE/ODHIR.
Palmer also asked that the reform on justice continues, which as he said won’t be perfect, but tomorrow it will be better than today.
“I can tell you that the justice reform will continue and that it won’t be an electoral matter.
It won’t be perfect, but tomorrow it will be better than today. Those, who have abused the people’s trust should be held accountable. We have seen much progress being done in the justice reform, but there is still a lot left to be done and this is a well-known fact by all sides,” stated the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of State.
