On Thursday, the US Department of Treasury imposed sanctions on around 120 individuals and companies for supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Among them, a company from Serbia, MCI Trading DOO, based in Belgrade, was also sanctioned.
In the announcement by the US authorities, it was stated that this company assisted the Russian company AK Microtech in acquiring high-tech equipment from manufacturers in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
The Russian company AK Microtech is accused of providing the Russian Ministry of Defense with high-tech equipment.
The announcement stated that this company specializes in transferring foreign technology to Russian companies for the production of microelectronics.
“Many of the recipients of this equipment are individuals and entities blocked by the United States,” the statement said, adding that AK Microtech works with non-Russian intermediaries to send the equipment to Russian recipients.
“One of these intermediaries is the Serbian company MCI Trading DOO,” the announcement said.
It was mentioned that the Serbian company has conducted a series of transfers for the Russian company since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine in February 2022.
The company MCI Trading and its director Ivan Cvetić have been added to the sanctions list for, as stated, providing material assistance and sponsorship or offering financial or technological aid to the company AK Microtech.
US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Wally Adeyemo, said that the new sanctions represent another step in the US efforts to limit Russia’s military capabilities.
