In an interview for Euronews Albania, the leader of the United for Human Rights Party, which represents the Greek minority in Albania, declared that the reform of property titles for Greek minority landowners will affect Albania’s EU accession, although he excluded that Greece could impose a proper veto.

“Athens is concerned that the Greek minority landowners are being stolen off the land of their grandfathers through legal tricks”, Dule said, adding that there is evidence to support such claims.

When asked whether Greece would be able to impose a veto on Albania’s EU integration path, Dule denied it but insinuated that the accession talks may face a slowdown due to the new methodology used by the EU.

Albania and Greece also have another suspended matter on the maritime border agreement. Dule said he wasn’t aware if there were any plans to reactivate the discussions, but he mentioned that Greece and Italy reached an agreement on this matter.

“This case showed that Rama’s government was mistaken when they claimed that Greece was trying to steal maritime territory from Albania”, Dule said.
