The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, stated that the main priority is the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans into the European Union and that it is necessary to return to the essential principles of EU enlargement.
Varhelyi emphasized that a lot of progress has been made for the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans, but that much more needs to be done, writes Euronews Serbia.
“We managed to move things out of the deadlock when it comes to negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania. Serbia and Montenegro have also shown a higher level of commitment to membership by accelerating reforms and we have accelerated the achievement of membership for them. We have opened a group of four chapters with Serbia, but of course we should not stop there”, he emphasized.
