The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, after the meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, stated that we are at a critical crossroads and that the past weeks and months have shown that the EU enlargement process is attracting a lot of attention.

Varhelyi underlined that it is very important that the Serbian president, Aleksander Vucic, be present at the December 6 summit in Tirana.

He stated unequivocally that the Serbian president should also be at the table with the leaders of the region.

“At the same time, we have seen a great deal of geopolitical destabilization on our continent. We are now responsible for meeting expectations and maintaining momentum. The enlargement process is one of the three main priorities of the EU leaders, that is exactly why we have the Summit in Tirana next week, where our leaders will come for the first time to the region to discuss it, it is necessary for everyone to be included and for Serbia to be at the table and we need the leader of Serbia to sit there”, said Oliver Varhelyi.

Recently, Serbian President Vucic has called the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, a terrorist.

A day earlier, he also said that no one from Serbia will be in Tirana at the EU-Western Balkans Summit on December 6, due to what he said was the EU’s “shameful” reaction to Nenad Rashic’s appointment as a minister in the Government of Kosovo.

On December 6, the first summit between the leaders of the EU and the Western Balkans will take place in Tirana.a
