Veliaj’s Appeal: Constitutional Court Summons the President to the October 31 Session

The Presidency has submitted its position to the Constitutional Court regarding the decree suspending the November 9 elections in Tirana, as part of the ongoing process concerning Erion Veliaj’s dismissal as mayor of the capital.

The Constitutional Court session to review Erion Veliaj’s dismissal from office is scheduled for October 31, and the Presidency, as an interested party, has been invited by the Court to take part in the hearing.

“The Institution of the President of the Republic has been notified by the Constitutional Court to participate as an interested party in the case being reviewed upon the request of the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Erion Veliaj, dismissed by Decision No. 539, dated September 25, 2025, of the Council of Ministers.
The Constitutional Court has requested that the parties submit their written positions on the case by October 16, 2025.
The Institution of the President of the Republic submitted its legal reasoning to the Constitutional Court yesterday, which was later published in the media, but not by the President’s Office itself,”
the Presidency’s submission to the Court reads, regarding the October 31 hearing.

On October 31, the Constitutional Court will convene in a public plenary session to examine Erion Veliaj’s appeal against his dismissal by the Council of Ministers, as well as the president’s decree on holding partial local elections in Tirana.
