The 5-kilometer road segment connecting the town of Ballsh with the center of the village of Gjerbës is in a severely deteriorated condition. Local residents say that for years the road has seen no investment, turning into a serious problem for their daily lives.
According to them, the state of the infrastructure has directly contributed to the depopulation of the village. Many families have left, while young people have emigrated and never returned due to the lack of minimum living conditions.
Some residents emphasize that the area was electrified before the 1990s, and since then no investment has been made to upgrade or renew the electricity lines.
They add that this road segment connects several villages and experiences heavy vehicle traffic throughout the day. However, due to numerous potholes and damages, vehicle wear and tear is frequent.
Faced with this situation, residents are calling for urgent intervention from the responsible institutions to rehabilitate the road and guarantee basic services, stating that they feel forgotten by both local and central authorities.
Meanwhile, Mayor Qerim Ismailaj has declared that he has formally requested the Albanian Development Fund to reconstruct this road segment, which he considers vital for the residents of the area.
