Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has confirmed, in an interview with Radio Free Europe, that she is seeking another term as head of state, as her current mandate expires in April 2026.

Osmani spoke one day after the snap parliamentary elections, the preliminary results of which declared Vetëvendosje the winner with more than 49 percent of the vote.

If political parties fail to reach a compromise on the election of a new president, the country could face a new election cycle.

President Osmani said she is awaiting the formation of new institutions and that she will hold talks with lawmakers from both the ruling parties and the opposition regarding her candidacy.

She also commented on her relationship with Kosovo’s acting prime minister and leader of Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti.

Regarding foreign policy, Osmani addressed Kosovo’s relations with the United States of America under the administration of Donald Trump, as well as the background of her meetings with U.S. officials.

She also spoke about the Kosovo–Serbia dialogue and the issue of implementing agreements reached between the two countries.
