After getting 71 votes in the third round of voting, Vjosa Osmani was elected president of Kosovo.

During her first speech as president, she took an opportunity to salute her closest associates.

She started off by shifting the attention to Kosovo’s past and its war for freedom.

So that the sacrifice of those that gave their lives in the name of freedom, as well as those that are currently missing or disappeared, the new president of Kosovo said that she will ask for justice and that during the dialogue with Serbia, everyone will be equal.

“The dialogue should be fair and equal. There will only be peace, when Serbia repents, apologizes and justice is restored,” said Osmani.

Unity was the leitmotif that accompanied that president’s first speech after stepping into office.

“There’s not that many of us, to be separated into ‘them’ and ‘us’, we are one! My door is open, there aren’t parties of the opposition and parties of the majority force,” she stated.

She also gave a special thanks to the party she was formerly an adherent to, the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo (LDK).

Regarding debates about the votes that came in her favor, even though they were from other parties she said the following:

“Challenging wrong actions, standing up for your beliefs… it isn’t simply a voting matter, it is a greater achievement in the realization of our mission… “such courageous actions are testimonies of the greatness present in all of you,” stated Osmani.

As the second woman to be a president of Kosovo and the Balkans, she also sent out a message for all women and girls.

She ended her first speech as president with Jusuf Gervalla’s words, “The right way, is the hardest!”
