The EU Special Representative for the Pristina-Belgrade Dialogue Miroslav Lajčák met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić this Friday.

After their discussions, the Serbian president said he had spoken to the diplomat about his concerns over the situation in Kosovo, especially in the north.

“I told the European mediator that my concern stems from Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s needs to provoke incidents and conflicts,” Vučić said.

In a message on his Instagram account, the Serbian president added that the meeting was focused in the creation of the Association of Serb Municipalities, which serves as a precondition for Serbia to continue negotiating with Kosovo.

Lajčák was in Pristina yesterday, where he met with PM Kurti and also made a trip to North Mitrovica. The purpose of the visit in the north was to get “first-hand information from the people living there and see how they regard the situation”.

The European diplomat visited both countries to monitor what has already been agreed in previous high-level meetings and to discuss further steps in the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia.

On May 15th, Lajčák will meet the two chief negotiators in Brussel, Besnik Bislimi and Petar Petković.
