President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, told Prva television of Serbia that the deadlines for an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia no longer have any meaning and that Serbia is ready to fulfill everything that does not include the recognition of Kosovo and its membership in the United Nations.

Germany, France and Italy have requested that Belgrade recognize the de facto independence of Kosovo and that Kosovo form the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority. This was stated in the letter signed by the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.

This letter comes after the leaders of the three key states of the European Union held separate meetings with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučič, in Brussels on October 26.

“I told you that we are ready to implement [the agreements], but said that we did not agreed on this,” Vučič said, adding that he refused to sign the documents offered.

“I told them that we have the Constitution of Serbia”, he said.

Vučič also said that he did not ask for any side letter to be accepted.

After the meetings in Brussels, Kurti’s Office said that the Kosovar Prime Minister has refused to accept a side letter presented by Vučič, which according to the Government of Kosovo undoes the three principles of the Agreement towards the normalization of relations, its Annex and the draft proposed by the five emissaries who visited Kosovo and Serbia on October 21.

“I said that we are ready to fulfill our obligations and added that we cannot accept anything related to the recognition of Kosovo’s independence or its membership in the UN,” said Vučič.

He added that he has heard about several deadlines for an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia for more than ten years and they no longer make sense.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said on October 27 that he was ready to sign an agreement for the normalization of relations and the proposal for the formation of the Association, but added that “the Serbian side was not interested”.
