Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic dismissed Vladimir Putin’s territorial claims for Ukraine and predicted that “the worst is yet to come” in the conflict between these two countries.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Vucic, who has had dozens of meetings with Putin in recent years, said he has not spoken to his Russian counterpart for many months.

“We have said from the beginning that we are unable to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. For us, Crimea is Ukraine, Donbas is Ukraine and it will remain so,” he stressed.

Vucic also said it would be a mistake to assume that the Serbian government fully supports the leadership in Moscow.

“We are not always enthusiastic about some of their attitudes. We have traditionally good relations, but this does not mean that we support every decision or most of the decisions coming from the Kremlin”, underlined the head of the Serbian state.

Regarding the claims that the Russian mercenary group Wagner is looking for Serbs to join the fight in Ukraine, the Serbian president was determined, saying that: “Wagner will not do this in Serbia.”
