Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that the agreement reached at the Summit for Ukraine held in Tirana does not mention sanctions against Russia or Russia’s negative influence.

According to him, this was made possible at Serbia’s request.

“The participants agreed to remove the part about sanctions and Russia’s negative influence… We have been informed that this has been accepted. There are no sanctions, there is no talk of sanctions, and there is no mention of Russia’s negative influence,” said Vučić.

Speaking to journalists after the summit, he said that the request of Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani not to remove these points was not justified.

“… because I said, if many of you perceive it this way, then let’s include some that we consider to have a negative influence… and then they were removed,” said Vučić.

“I said that, despite the desire to uphold international law and support Ukrainian friends, we cannot accept this,” added the Serbian president.

The declaration of the Summit for Ukraine in Tirana has been made public.

Serbia is the only country in the Western Balkans that has not imposed sanctions against Russia following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022.

Official Belgrade has only supported some United Nations resolutions that opposed the Russian invasion.
