On the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama took part in the meeting of EU leaders. In a video message, Rama declared his support for Ukraine, but stated that the discussions should not be limited to aid alone. “Something important has happened, as you all know, and the question that arises is how Ukraine will be supported effectively how Europe can be effective in defending itself, and how it can make the best of something that is happening, a negotiation between Russia and the United States.”
The leader of the Social Democratic Party, Tom Doshi, declared non grata by the US, was summoned to the Special Prosecution Office on Monday morning. The former MP said he was questioned about the elections in Rrogozhina after he had communicated with a person who was under wiretapping by the Special Prosecution Office.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who is in prison, published today on Facebook information related to debates in a recent court hearing. He reported that the prosecutor of the case used offensive and denigrating language towards him. After this statement, the Special Court reacted by saying that the prosecutor did not use offensive words towards Veliaj.
Albania’s public debt has decreased in 2024 to 54.7% of Gross Domestic Product. Albania had a public debt of 72% even in 1999, after the country experienced the financial collapse caused by pyramid schemes.
