Twelve out of fifteen ministers from the new government cabinet, revealed on Thursday by Prime Minister Edi Rama, were women.
In a report published several months ago by the Visual Capitalist, based on data from UN Women and The Inter-Parliamentary Unio, Albania ranked among the ten countries with the highest share of women in government posts (53.3%). But the new cabinet, 80% of which is composed of women, will most likely change Albania’s rank in the report.
In the Rama 2 government, which underwent several reshuffles, from a total of 16 ministers, 9 were women.
But which countries have the highest number of women in their governments?
Visual Capitalist reveals that only 14 out of 195 states analyzed have at least 50% of women in their respective ministerial cabinets.
Spain – 66.7%
Finland – 61.1%
Nicaragua – 58.8%
Columbia – 57.9%
Austria – 57.1%
Peru – 55%
Sweden – 54, 9%
Rwanda – 53.6%
Albania – 53.3%
France – 52.9%
Women have little or small weight in the governments of Western Balkan countries. For example, the government of Montenegro is only composed of 22% women, North Macedonia 21.7%, Serbia 19.1%, and Croatia 20%.
