Albania has the lowest level of healthcare spending in Europe. The latest report published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) revealed that in 2022, healthcare expenditures in the public and private sectors amounted to €734 per capita.
This was the lowest level in Europe and nearly five times lower than the EU average of €3,533.
In the region, Montenegro has the highest healthcare expenditures, double that of Albania, with €1,593, followed by Serbia with €1,517, North Macedonia with €1,142, and Bosnia and Herzegovina with €1,072.
Data shows that Switzerland leads Europe in terms of high per capita healthcare spending, with €5,630 annually, followed by Norway with €5,376.
On the other hand, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey also have low healthcare spending levels compared to the European average.
