Historian Nevila Lika says that there are many reasons that can lead citizens to violate or vandalize monuments, referring to the case a few days ago, where the bust of Mit’hat Frasheri was completely destroyed.
In an interview for “NOW with Erla Mehilli” on Euronews Albania, Lika said that we still cannot break away from the past of the communist regime.
“There are many reasons, maybe a single show isn’t enough to talk about all of them. We still cannot break away from the past of the communist period. We are constantly in the mish-mash of what happened during the Second World War, we can even go a little further, to the period of King Zog’s reign. Between generations, a kind of indoctrination has continued to be planted in the hearts, souls, and minds of ordinary Albanians. There is something wrong in our society”, she emphasized.
