Political expert, Ermal Hasimja stated that the new political alternatives in Albania haven’t been successful because of the environment as well as because of their lack of offering trustworthy alternatives.
However, the analysts also mentioned the case of 2015’s elections for Tirana’s mayor, which showed that citizens too don’t support young figures in politics.
“We were with Gjergj Bojaxhiu in [Tirana] in various ballot stations we couldn’t get more than 19% of votes. DP would call Tirana’s Blloku area ‘Stalingrad’ so we went there in a meeting of around 30-40 people and we were fully aware that it was a mostly left-wing electorate. Someone stood up in the middle of the conversation and said: you know what, I want to get a building permit, when you become mayor will you give it to me? Gjergji said no. Oh well, he said, you’re no good, and left” said Hasimja.
On the other hand, the editor-in-chief of “Dita” newspaper, Adrian Thano stated that the people have delivered their signals but they have been cheated midway. He gave the example of the “January 21st” protest, to say that it is cynical to blame the people.
“It’s not that the people haven’t signaled and reacted, be it with their vote or public opinions. In 2013 for example, they voted for retribution, but it didn’t happen. They came out in protest on January 21st. But what happened on January 21st? The one the people were protesting against became part of the joint- government. The people have been betrayed by the elites. There is no way the people can be blamed for this. It is the model given by the elites,” added Thano.
