Albanian immigrants in Greece have protested at the weekend and have expressed that they will continue with their protests if their conditions are not met.

Why are they protesting? For the rights that have been denied to them for many years.

Today, an Albanian citizen moves freely in Europe, while Albanian immigrants who have been in Greece for 30 years cannot go to Europe, because they have what’s known as ‘white papers’.

Today, an Albanian citizen retires as soon as he reaches the required age. In Greece, there are immigrants with 25 years of work and they do not get approved for a retirement pension.

“They have conditioned us to the maximum with racist laws to not get citizenship,” said another protestor. 

‘Immigrants apply for the renewal of their residence permit – and every morning they pray to God: “Please, may this be my turn to receive the residence permit”.

“Today, immigrants have no health insurance, because they have ‘white papers’ despite being regularly insured with work permits”, said some of the protestors.
