Witness Christopher Hill, former U.S. ambassador to Serbia, has explained why he decided to testify in defense of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi at the Hague.

Hill stated that he does not believe Thaçi was ever involved in illegal activities.

“Time does not heal all wounds, but I think that after 25 years, it’s time to reflect on things — and I have no reason to believe that Thaçi was involved in such activities,” Hill said.

He added that during his time in the region, he had never heard or seen any indication that Thaçi had ordered or participated in unlawful acts.

“I have no reason to believe, nor did I hear at the time, that he ever ordered any illegal activities. As I understand it, he was detained for a certain period in connection with these issues.

When I was asked to testify, people contacted me, and I felt it was right to speak about what I knew regarding the situation,” Hill explained.
