The former Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani, has revealed some of the reasons why, according to him, justice in Albania is not independent.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Manjani said that some of the judges and prosecutors were appointed to serve politically.
Among other things, Manjani underlined that they have understood, that they have no interest in having the government as their enemy.
“Some are formatted so that in the elections, they are put there to serve politically. Second, there are people who have problems, they have jobs, needs, loans. Third, no one is interested in having the government as an enemy. Why should he listen from morning till dinner you’re a thief, a bandit, you’ll face vetting. The system is broken. Whoever the prime minister has spoken to, you see, if he doesn’t behave, as they say, he will be caught by vetting, and he has been caught by the vetting. These are the facts. Why should these officials who are part of the system become heroes? They do their work and go home,” Manjani emphasized.
