The former director of the Ministry of Tourism, Viola Sterjo, was arrested by the Korca police for the criminal offense of fraud.
Sterjo is suspected of setting up a fraud scheme by taking money from citizens with the aim of influencing state institutions.
The people who fell prey to the fraud scheme of the former director are people who are known to benefit from various monetary funds from the state budget.
The materials in her charge were passed to the Korca Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
“Specialists for the Investigation of Economic-Financial Crime at DVP Korça, in cooperation with the specialists of the Research Section at DVP Tirana, carried out the execution of the order of the Prosecutor’s Office for the detention of citizen V. S., 39 years old, resident in Tirana. Her arrest was made after the Korça Court of First Instance, with the decision dated 26.12.2022, assigned the security measure “Prison arrest” for this citizen, for the criminal offense “Fraud”, with serious consequences. From the investigations carried out, it results that in the period March-November 2020, through fraud, V. S. is suspected of having benefited from the city of Korca, a significant amount of money, with the aim of influencing state institutions, so that various other citizens could benefit from the state’s monetary funds’, the police announced.
