A 45-year-old woman has been stabbed to death by her 51-year-old husband. Police suspect that jealousy might have been the motive behind the gruesome murder.
The stabbing occurred this morning inside the couple’s vehicle.
After stabbing his wife, the 51-year-old man tried to take away his own life and is currently in hospital being treated for self-sustained injuries.
Violence against women is a concerning matter in Albanian society, while over the last 2 years at least 23 women have died as a result of domestic violence.
According to police data, in 2020 there were 4,701 domestic violence and other similar offenses within the household.
During the same year, police confirm that 2,816 restraining orders have been issued for cases of domestic violence.
