The suspected author of the murder of Albanian businessman Ardian Nikulaj in Shëngjin, was arrested in Morocco this Monday.
The Moroccan police localized and later arrested 28-year-old Portuguese citizen Ruben Saraiva, after receiving intel from Interpol Tirana and Interpol Rabat.
Euronews Albania journalist, Sara Demushi reports that the Portuguese can be brought in Albania, only in the case of an exchange with a Moroccan prisoner who may have been arrested in the country. This is because Albania and Morocco do not have an extradition agreement.
“Persons involved in such acts usually flee to places where there are no extradition agreements,” the journalist further explains.
Only one person is now being searched by police, tied to the businessman’s murder. British citizen Harry Simson is still on the loose, while Edmond Haxhia, Stephen Hunt, Thomas Mithan and Harriet Bridgeman were arrested during an operation of the British National Crime Agency in London.
Edmond Haxhia, with both Albanian and British citizenship, is related to the Lestakaj family, involved in a blood feud with the Nikulaj family. Seven years ago, Elton and Klodian Lestakaj accused Ardian and Arben Nikulaj for murdering two of their family members.
