With 79 votes in favor, Parliament declares Iran a state sponsor of terrorism

The Parliament of Albania voted this Tuesday with 79 votes in favor of a draft resolution declaring Iran a state sponsor of terrorism. During the vote, there was one abstention by Redi Muçi. There were no votes against, while the opposition did not participate in the session following its decision to boycott.

Vote results:

  • 79 votes in favor
  • 1 abstention – Redi Muçi
  • 0 against

The head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, stated during his speech in the session that terrorism is not only an act of violence but also an undermining of the democratic order.

He emphasized that Albania remains steadfast in this fight and on the side of the rule of law. Balla also recalled the cyberattack against the Parliament of Albania, describing it as a hostile act. Among other things, he stressed that they aim to condemn every form of support for aggression.

He also called on his colleagues to vote to declare Iran’s Revolutionary Guard an organization of terrorism.

The plenary session ended after the vote and lasted 22 minutes.
