Seasonal employees in the tourism sector will be paid throughout the year. In order to make tourism businesses sustainable, the government and tourism operators are discussing the possibility that for 6 months of the year, the employees will be paid for the service they will perform and for the other 6 months they will receive a minimum wage.
This form of support is suggested in the new National Tourism Strategy for the years 2024-2030, with the aim of preserving the workforce and further developing tourism businesses.
“This framework should focus on seasonal workers in the tourism industry, ensuring that they receive adequate compensation when they are not actively working, and should incentivize employers to retain their workforce for subsequent seasons,” emphasized in the Strategy.
The initiative includes the clear definition of the target groups, the period of work without interruption, but also the time of financial support, social and health insurance and re-employment.
In 2023, the number of people employed in tourism was 43 thousand, while with the plan drawn up until 2030, this number will reach 74 thousand.
