In the Murriz tunnel, part of Arbri Road, work is being done on concreting the last 400 meters. Although the geological composition of this tunnel has been extremely difficult, and there are many water sources, the work has not stopped for a moment.

Currently, work is being done in both directions with the aim of opening the tunnel for vehicle traffic at the end of this year, thus completing one of the most important works of Arbri Road.

The Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, together with the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, were at the site where they closely followed the progress of this work.

During the inspection, Deputy Prime Minister Balluku emphasized the importance of this work, which will significantly shorten the distance between the district of Dibra and the capital, simultaneously promoting the economic development of the area.

“We have set ourselves some deadlines that I really hope we keep, as this is an incredible access to the northeast of the country and then to the north. Dibra considers this road very important, but not only Dibra, as today the whole province of Mati is also developing from the side of agro-tourism and other industrial units”, declared Balluku.

In addition to the development of tourism, Minister Balluku also emphasized the role that this work will have for the connection with North Macedonia, since through the tree road you go to two customs with North Macedonia.

“It must be said that it is an access to two border points with North Macedonia, and it is certainly one of the most important roads connecting the capital. So I really hope that this tunnel, as the conclusion and crowning of this work, of the entire Arbri Street, will be closed by 2024 and it probably looks like things are moving forward”, said Balluku.

The Murriz tunnel has a length of 3.78 kilometers and consists of two tubes, the traffic one and the emergency one.
