The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, reacted after the meeting in Brussels with her Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, where the arrest of Fredi Beleri was also discussed.

Through a post on her official Facebook page, Xhaçka states that during the meeting with Dendias she had clearly emphasized that “the arrest of Beleri is a court case that should not affect the new page we have opened in our bilateral relations”.

“This is neither a human rights issue nor a political issue, and it is no longer a bilateral issue. Mr. Beleri enjoys the same rights as any other Albanian citizen and no Albanian citizen is above the law. Vote buying is a serious violation of our law and his case is already in court. The only thing we can all do is to wait patiently for the process to take its course and not to prejudge or guess about it”, says Xhaçka.
