The vice-chairperson of the Integration Commission, Senida Mesi, was a guest on Euronews Albania’s “Raw Politics” tonight to discuss the country’s EU integration process.

According to Mesi, the bloc takes decisions based on “political” and not “technical” grounds. The technical side implies the conditions demanded by the EU, which both Albania and North Macedonia had to fulfill in order to launch accession negotiations.

“At times of enlargement, be that with Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania, the decision was political, and it will be like that again”, said Mesi.

In terms of Albania, Mesi believes that the EU Council meeting went smoother than in the past because all member states have agreed that the country has met the criteria.

“In every EU report, from 2018 till now, the answer has been that Albania is ready. Even in 2020, they said they were ready to start negotiations, but without establishing two key elements: the negotiating framework and a date for the first Intergovernmental Conference”, said Mesi.
