According to the former Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani, a positive progression is taking place from within the Democratic Party, referring to the four candidates entering the race for the party’s new chairmanship. However, he added that the real success would be if this will be able to be managed correctly, even after the conclusion of the leadership elections.

Manjani argued that DP will need to form collegiality and he advised on the creation of a new structure that would soften the overly dominating role of the leader, within the party.

“There is something positive in terms of the future. I would have liked to see Arben Imami in this team, be it in a competitive role or not. It is an opportunity for collegial decision-making. Let the team win. There should be a team that makes decisions on a daily basis. The candidates should be the leading team of DP, because right now, they are a real contribution to the DP, which should soften the authority of the leader and this would certainly be something new,” claimed Manjani.

While speaking on the lack of democracy within the parties, the former Minister brought up the tough race within the Socialist Party, around 22 years ago, when Fatos Nano was racing against Pandeli Majko.

“Before, there used to be real internal democracy within SP. I remember back in 1999, the tough race won by Fatos Nano with 26 votes in favor, when he ran against Pandeli Majko. It was a race of forums, of elites. There was also a race in 2003, when Edi Rama registered, he brought with him the yogurt bottle and things of that nature, but in fact what is happening today in DP, from a democratic perspective is something truly positive. It is slightly different from other times,” added Manjani.
