The murder of an 18-year-old on Sunday in the city of Ferizaj, has spurred a large protest today in Kosovo.

The protestors gathered at the local police department in Ferizaj, calling for the prosecution of the suspects and the protection of women’s lives.

Apart from chanting and putting up messages and signs, the protestors also threw buckets of red paints in the direction of police officers – an act that was followed by the protestors accusing the police of “having blood on their hands”.

  • “Maximal punishment for Arber Sejdiu”
  • “Maximum punishment for Dardan Krivaqa”
  • “Down with patriarchal instituations”
  • “The lives of women are a joke to cops”

These were some of the chants recited by the protestors.

Over the course of a single day, 6 women were physically assaulted by their own husbands, in Kosovo.

Yesterday, several organizations in Kosovo protested in the name of protecting the lives of women, demanding that the justice system investigates into the case of the murdered 18-year-old, with an added sense of urgency.

Two citizens were arrested for the murder of the 18-year-old, M.O., Arber Sjediu and Dardan Krivaqa, the latter was living with the victim and has previously been a suspect of several murder cases.

The body of the 18-year-old is currently subject to an autopsy examination, as police investigations are underway in order to bring to light new details about the case and ultimately solve it.
