With the slogan, ‘Trauma, not a game’ students of several high schools in Prishtina started their march in Kosovo’s capital city.
This protest came after media reports of the sexual harassment case of an underage girl in Kosovo.
‘Don’t stay silent, tell!’, ‘Don’t ruin my childhood’, were some of the main sentences chanted by the groups of protestors.
The sexual harassment suffered by a minor at school, has triggered this massive backlash in Prishtina. Hundreds of students marched the city centre, asking for security, equality, education as well as sex-ed and psychologists in all schools.
‘’It’s time for us to raise our voices all of us together, and show everyone that this isn’t a game, it’s trauma” said Lendina Balaj, high-school student.
‘Our first demand is for applying sex-ed in our school syllabus. We all know that this subject is necessary, and how much it has been ignored by the system and public institutions of Kosovo. Our second demand is for us to have psychologists in all schools,” said another high-school student, Ene Aliu.
The frontline of protestors was also joined by the former President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, who called for teaching children love and respect.
“Boys and girls should be raised the same way and equally, within the walls of the home; let’s not let boys undermine our sisters or anyone else, but instead let’s teach them love and respect,” stated the former President of Kosovo.
