Customs authorities at the Port of Durres have cracked down on a fraudulent contraband scheme that included the import of medicine disguised as humanitarian aid.
Authorities confiscated a vehicle carrying 1.950 kilograms of contraband medicaments which weren’t accompanied by any applicable documentation in regards to their import and entry into the Albanian territory.
They were separated into 8.793 boxes and reached a monetary value of €119 thousand euros.
One social worker from a private company focused on caring for the elderly has been arrested, and an arrest warrant has been released for the Chief of Services as the Local Division of Healthcare in Lezha.
They are currently facing charges of ‘’Contraband of licensed goods”.
