The 117th anniversary of the patriotic battle led by Çerçiz Topulli’s guerrilla unit was commemorated in the village of Mashkullorë, Gjirokastër. In March 1908, this village witnessed one of the most remarkable battles against Ottoman occupiers, on the eve of Albania’s Declaration of Independence.

During the event, participants laid wreaths in honor of this historical event and paid tribute to the patriotic contributions of Çerçiz Topulli and his unit.

“The Veterans’ Organization of Gjirokastër is here today to honor the 117th anniversary of the Battle of Mashkullorë—an event sacred and dear to us for its resistance, loyalty, and contribution to Albania’s freedom and independence,” said Shkëlqim Guçe, Chairman of the Veterans’ Association.

“This was one of the first preludes to our country’s independence. The distinguished patriot Çerçiz Topulli sparked the initial flame that led to later uprisings for Albania’s liberation. We will always remember his great deeds because they are a living history of our people’s struggle for freedom and independence,” stated a veteran at the event.

Recently, the monument of Çerçiz Topulli was reinstated in the newly reconstructed square bearing his name, located in Gjirokastër’s museum area.
