Around 200 homes in the Ish-Këneta area of Durrës were flooded yesterday due to heavy rainfall. Approximately 50 residents gathered to protest, claiming that civil emergency services failed to intervene, either to assist them or to assess the damage to their homes.

Some residents spoke to Euronews Albania on Thursday, expressing frustration and warning that they would continue protesting if authorities do not take action.

One woman, visibly emotional, stated that this is the third consecutive year their homes have been flooded without any response from the authorities.

“The water reached my mattress. I have called everyone, but no one has come. My son has allergies, my daughter has health problems, and still, no one has come to help. If they don’t intervene, we will continue to protest—at the very least, they should pump out the water. This is the third year in a row we’ve been flooded. They promise us aid, but we haven’t received anything.”

Another resident expressed frustration over the authorities’ lack of action:

“They are mocking us here. Our refrigerators, our belongings—nothing works anymore. The fire department came, but they just raised their hands in surrender. If they don’t respond, we will take to the streets in protest.”
