The government plans to impose an extraordinary tax of 33 percent on private power producers who export it.
However, not all private hydropower plants will be subject to this tax.
“We are not talking about a tax for all HPPs, but a tax for the three big energy producers, who have done nothing to sell the energy multiple times. We don’t have anything against them, but they can’t make amazing profits because you were lucky,” said Rama.
All three of these producers have multiplied their profits thanks to the increase in energy prices.
The government expects to collect 70 million euros from the special tax on them during the next year.
A similar tax has started to be applied in the EU as well.
