30 members of an Albanian criminal gang have been arrested by Belgian police, during an international drug trafficking operation.

Local press reports that the Antwerp police raided 17 buildings as a result of which weapons, cocaine, cash, luxury watches, diamonds, and several cars were confiscated.

Police operations were conducted simultaneously in several other European nations. Dozens of citizens were arrested there as well, and around 60 homes were raided in Spain, Italy, Germany, Croatia, and the Netherlands.

“It was a discovery of a new criminal scene throughout the Brussels territory, which until now has managed to remain largely inconspicuous,” – said Eric Jacobs, chief of the Federal Judicial Police in Brussels.

According to the Federal Prosecutor, this investigation discovered a criminal organization, the members of whom were living in Brussels and were for the most part, originally from Eastern Europe.

This organization was involved in the transportation of cocaine which was smuggled through containers, from the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam to other European countries including Italy and Spain.
