27-year-old, Rael Luli had become part of RENEA, – the elite special forces unit of the Albanian police – about 2 years ago. In order to get recruited and become part of this special structure, one needs to pass several security checks and physical resistance tests.
According to a recent investigation, the young officer was taking advantage of this rank in order to move freely and avoid patrols during his distribution of large quantities of cocaine, which he directed with the help of 4 other young accomplices, in the following neighborhoods: The Park, Kombinat, Misto Mame, Yzberisht and Student City.
2 months ago, Saranda’s police officer, part of the ‘Eagles Squad’, Lavdosh Metaj was also arrested for the sale of cocaine, whereas in July, another officer in Tirana was arrested on the same charges, Elefterios Sullaj.
The number of police officers that are suspected to be connected to the cultivation of cannabis, according to the most recent report by the Services for Internal Issues and Complaints, has doubled.
