The normative act which paves the way for additional Pfizer vaccines to come into the country has been approved by the Health Commission. Each country can now donate doses to Albania through more relaxed procedures.

“This kind of alleviation will be bilateral. Countries will be giving donations to Albania by notifying Pfizer,” – stated the former health minister, Eugena Tomini.

At the moment, 33% of the Albanian population has been administered both doses of the vaccine. These are the lowest vaccination rates in the region, which have prompted several reactions, including from Democratic MP, Tritan Shehu who complained about the extremely low vaccination rate in our country.

“We are currently below the global average, which includes Africa, Asia etc. Italy is reaching towards 90%, so we’re not capable to securing our citizens’ wellbeing,” – said Shehu.

In addition, Tomini said that by the end of the year, we will have reached the full inoculation of 40% of the population.

So far, a total of 2.663.100 vaccines have arrived in Albania, of which 2.000.049 have been administered.
