On the International Day of the fight against AIDS, an outpatient HIV-AIDS clinic was opened in Tirana, reconstructed in the premises of the Infectious Disease Hospital.

Albania is a country with a low incidence in terms of the spread of this infection.

However, compared to a year ago, over 50 thousand tests were performed or 16% more than in 2021, where the majority are pregnant women.

“Of the 1,600 women who were tested in the past years, only for 2022 there are over 5,000, who have been tested for HIV/AIDS. What is important is rapid treatment and diagnosis. Through our programs and the Global Fund program, we will also start self-testing for HIV-AIDS. The whole fight in this aspect is timely diagnosis, so that the treatment can start as soon as possible and the infection is under control”, Minister Manastirliu said.

Infection with the HIV virus in 96% of cases occurs through unprotected sexual intercourse. Currently, 792 people receive ARV treatment, of which 780 are adults and 12 are children.
