During the meeting of UN’s Security Council, Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gervalla invited Serbia, to have both countries enter a new era, despite all the cruelties and pain that it has inflicted upon the Kosovar people.

“Serbia should be aware and accept that it will have to pay the price for its murderous cruelties. Serbia will have to face its past, to free itself from its genocidal roots and try to become a European nation that is truly civilized,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo.

Reminding everyone that was present that the Serbian regime of Milosevic amounted to over 15 thousand victims in Kosovo, Gervalla asked the question regarding what is that, which causes Serbians, once themselves a victim of genocide and fascism, to become perpetrators of genocide, to end up becoming fascist and in the end, not be able to face responsibility?

“The world is well-aware, in fact most of our opponents know that: The Independence of the Republic of Kosovo is a done deal. The sooner Serbia accepts this reality, the sooner it can move from a dark past on to an enlightened future. On our side, we remain open, despite all the damages Serbia caused to our people, we extend our hand, to discuss and to get to know each other. Let’s start a new era,” said Gervalla.

The Serbian minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Sellakovi said that the Serbian side is ready for dialogue, but not for the ultimatums that are being imposed by the new government of Kosovo. Whilst the chief of the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Zahir Tanin emphasized that he has discussed with the PM of Kosovo, Albin Kurti as well as with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, regarding the importance of this dialogue between both sides.

The meeting was also met with tension as the representative of Russia, Dimitri Poljanski asked the leaders of the session to have the representative of Kosovo, remove the Kosovo flag from her office, that was being projected on the screen during the online meeting. After a short break, the meeting recommenced the same way it started, with the Kosovo flag in the background.
