The aggressive campaign against political adversaries ahead of the general elections was described by the Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj as a strategy to show citizens “the difference between sides”.
In an interview for Euronews Albania with journalist Ilva Tare, the Mayor of Tirana said that citizens must be clear over what the Democratic Party has to offer “the come back of Ilir Meta, Monika Kryemadhi and Sali Berisha”.
“Tirana must understand that the tactic of Lulzim Basha and the DP is to at first dismiss Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi, Sali Berisha and Basha’s brother in law, but at the end of the day, bring them back”.
Erion Veliaj emphasized that despite the commitment to the campaign, he is still carrying on with his daily duties as the Mayor of Tirana. He said that he’s been “campaigning for six years”, implying that he sees his job as a continuous challenge.
“I was in Dajt for a rally, and I still had the time to inaugurate a kindergarten. The problem does not come from those who work a lot”, said Veliaj.
Furthermore, he said that he has been calling for a debate with the leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha for over six years.
“I have been calling for a debate with Lulzim Basha for six years to make a recap on the Municipality of Tirana. Whenever he wishes”, said Veliaj.
Mayor Veliaj accused Basha of not having any “considerable achievements”.
“Name a school in Tirana, a public work or a moment when the clock of Tirana was ticking”, said Veliaj.
