The Mayor of Tirana confidently said that the Socialist Party will win the general elections, as he spoke of an “artificial unification” of the opposition forces.
According to him, the fact that the Çam minority party locked forces with the Greek minority party is something “immoral”.
Furthermore, he said that Lulzim Basha is in fact a “victim” because the de-facto leaders of the opposition are Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta.
Asked over what would mean a victory and loss in Tirana, Mayor Veliaj asserted that they’re eyeing a better result from previous elections.
“Every result larger than that in 2017 would mean victory, so getting over 200.000 votes is our objective in order to have a moral majority”, he said.
In the 2017 parliamentary polls, when the SP, DP, and SMI raced separately, the results were as follow:
- 18 mandates for the SP (200,517 votes)
- 11 mandates for the DP (12,865 votes)
- 5 mandates for the SMI (55,894 votes)
