A serious incident has shocked the capital city this afternoon. A man has entered the premises of the renowned ‘Dine Hoxha’ mosque in central Tirana and injured 5 people with a hand knife, but fortunately, according to authorities, they are all out of danger for their lives.

The Imam of the mosque, Ahmed Kalaja has condemned this serious attack, which caused fear and anxiety to all Muslim believers.

“Today, after the midday prayer, at 14:00, a barbarian act has happened in the ‘Dine Hoxha’ mosque, where a man armed with a knife, attacked the believers inside the mosque, and didn’t get enough but starting hitting people on the street, on his way out as well. That person has now been arrested,” he said.

Through a message shared on social media, Imam Kalaja stated that the situation is now under control.

“The situation is under control and there is nothing to worry about and I pray to God Almighty that he can heal all those that were injured. I hope that this wasn’t a terrorist act, but I hope that it was just someone with a mental disorder that could have done something like this. There is nothing to worry about,” he added.

He also admitted that as a result of this attack, staff, as well as believers performing their religous rituals, have been injured.

“People that want to ruin the harmony and serenity of this blessed, holy month…Some brothers from the staff of the mosque were injured, but there were also believers, who were worshipping God at those very moments,” he emphasized.
