The ambulance sirens are being heard less and less in the hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. A doctor in the Infective Hospital, Entela Ramosaco, tells us that at the moment, there are fewer elderly patients admitted to the hospital, whereas the most prevalent age group is 35-60.
“Seeing that the number of admissions has decreased, we can say that in the premises of our emergency unit in this period, we are admitting 5,6 or a maximum of 10 patients in 24 hours. The number of elderly patients being hospitalized has dropped, but I believe this is the effect of the vaccine, whereas other people who haven’t been vaccinated especially those in the ages 40-60 should be very attentive,” said Entela Ramosaco, infections specialist doctor at QSUT.
According to the doctor, the fall of daily infections shouldn’t be accompanied by negligence towards measures against COVID-19.
“The patients that are coming are showing more grave symptoms, they are cases that need reanimation or respiratory assistance. Using caution through using masks and keeping social distance should be kept in place until the last citizen is vaccinated, and on the other hand, we should be aware of all the mutations this virus can undergo, so we should be attentive about possible reinfections,” said Ramosaco.
The 3rd and 4th COVID designated hospitals are currently not treating any patients, but according to the Ministry of Health, they will be ready to provide their services at any given moment. 170 patients are currently being treated in the Infective Hospital, Shefqet Ndroqi and three regional hospitals.
