Rudolf Nikolli, the 34-year-old man arrested for the knife attack at the “Dine Hoxha” mosque in Tirana, is now facing terrorism-related charges.
Euronews Albania learned that the charges were upgraded to terrorism as the attack took place in a place of worship.
On Monday afternoon, Nikolli who is believed to be suffering from mental health issues entered the mosque during prayer time and stabbed five worshippers.
The victims of the attack were immediately taken to the hospital, while the injuries sustained were nonlife-threatening.
Police confirmed that Nikolli was on the run as he was wanted for another stabbing incident that had happened in March at the bus terminal in Tirana.
