On Wednesday, an incident has been recorded in Fier as members of the Socialist Movement for Integration got into a physical altercation with the city’s municipal police.
The reason behind the conflict is allegedly the removal of the party’s banner from the main boulevard during preparations to wrap up the electoral campaign of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Meanwhile, there is a signed contract between the SMI and the Municipality of Fier to put up the banners.
Kejdi Mehmeti, Arben Cuke, and supporters of the SMI demanded to speak with representatives from the municipality but were not allowed to enter the premises by Municipal Police. It is believed that the situation deteriorated from this point leading to the physical altercation.
Footage secured by Euronews Albania shows initially the violent verbal exchange that led to the physical clash.
