The US embassy has shared a reaction regarding the violent events of earlier today in Elbasan, where one person was murdered and 4 others were injured after a conflict that is believed to have been initiated because of political discords.

Through a post on their official Facebook page, the US embassy has made an appeal for the complete investigation of this case, while asking the leaders of the political parties in Albania to exercise restraint, in order to now jump to conclusions before the investigations of the case are complete.

“We have seen the reports of violence in Elbasan today resulting in the death of one individual and injury to others. We call on law enforcement officials to investigate this incident quickly and thoroughly, identify perpetrators, and prosecute them to the full extent of the law. Those who engage in such violence must be punished.

Ambassador Kim has asked President Meta, Prime Minister Rama, and Democratic Party Chairman Basha to exercise restraint – and to lead accordingly – pending investigation of this case. Our actions must be based on facts, not fear or rumor. With just a few days remaining before elections on April 25, we reiterate our statement of March 26 calling for leaders – those in office and those seeking office – to clearly reject violence. The U.S. Embassy will continue to monitor the situation closely,” says the declaration of the US embassy in Albania.
