During the panel discussion on Ilva Now, the former Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani said that as long as the state doesn’t work, the opposition has a right to create a structure for the protection of the vote. He accused the State Police for manipulating the evidence in the crime scene.
“No one that calls themselves a citizen should wait for the crime to happen, for someone to come and discover it and say that it is happening. If the crime happens and you don’t intervene, you are a collaborator with the author. The police that are stealing votes, are not going to prove anything. The case won’t be investigated because the crime scene has been compromised. I saw on the media, the day of the incident, a box of ID cards lying in front of the car, and that box has disappeared,” stated Manjani.
His declaration led to many reactions from those present in the studio. According to Neritan Sejamini it is unforgivable for a party to organize an armed structure. He said that it “is scandalous that people are killed because of vote-buying, when there are hundreds of other more important cases in the country than vote-buying”.
“Adri Nurellari considers it crucially concerning that this incident happened in the presence of the police. He considers it “a lack of professionalism” while bringing up the problems of crime that have succumbed the city of Elbasan. Nurellari linked this incident to the clash of supporters on March 14th and considered the fact that authorities couldn’t take the necessary measures that could’ve prevented the murder of April 21st, a big problem.
Debate
Manjani: The Structure for Protecting the Vote is legitimate as long as the state doesn’t work, we are in an anarchy, constitutional law and order have fallen.
Mëhilli: What you’re saying means that if a state is captured by gangs, we should put it against another gang, so we shouldn’t hold elections but a face-off.
Manjani: Please cite for me, which law did they break? The law that they have captured by selling Identity Cards, completely flagrantly?
Tare: Taking away personal freedom.
Manjani: What is personal freedom in the face of election theft? Why did they fire their guns?
Tare: We don’t know that. Under which law did they stop the car?
Manjani: Under the law of protecting the vote?
Tare: Is that a new law?
Biba: The law that might have been violated is the law of taking the attributes of the state police.
Manjani: Only one of them had a licensed gun [the others didn’t have a license for their guns]. This is the situation at hand. There was a box full of IDs and it disappeared. Instead of dealing with the aggressor, you’re dealing with the victim. The murder should be clarified because if it is within the borders of self-defense, it is no longer a murder.
Sejamini: They don’t have any kind of authority for how they acted, they served a political party and this is scandalous. They are former cops and were chosen that way on purpose.
