The 2018 Film “The Delegation” by Albanian Director Bujar Alimani has been chosen as Albania’s main contender for the “Best International Feature Film” Category at the 2020 Oscars.

The film is set in October 1990—when the Albanian Communist Regime was struggling to maintain what was left of its power. A Co-Production with Albania, France, Greece, and Kosovo, as well as, a screenplay by Artan Minarolli— “The Delegation” is Alimani’s 3rd Movie to have been submitted for an Oscar Nomination.

As a European Delegation heads to Tirana, in order to monitor the crucial political reforms for the Country to join the OSCE Security Agency—Officials came forth with a proposal to release a long-time Political Prisoner, so as to convince the EU that everything is going well. However, nothing went according to plan.

In 2011, the nomination of his first Film “The Amnesty” came after the Movie “Falja e Gjakut” (The Forgiveness of Blood) shot by U.S. Director Joshua Marston on location in Northern Albania—whose Oscar Nomination was canceled following a controversial decision that was made by The Academy in Hollywood.

The Albanian Director Mr. Alimani, formally protested against the nomination of Marston’s Film—insisting that, it could not be considered an Albanian Movie, just because it was filmed in Albania.

In 2016, Alimani submitted his second Movie “The Chrome” for an Oscar Nomination and sadly, it did not get a nomination.

Since 1996, Albania has submitted Movies for nomination at Prestigious Awards like the Cannes Film Festival, but it has not yet won a nomination. The 92nd Academy Awards will take place on February 10th, 2020 at the Dolby Theater in LA, California.
